Chupacabras Face Reeling Matadors
McKinney is set to host Lubbock for the first time this season at Ron Poe Stadium.
The Chupacabras (3-0-0) enter the matchup after nine days of rest, following the postponement of their road match against Denton Diablos due to a waterlogged field. That fixture will be played on June 22.
Lubbock (2-2-1) comes into the match off back-to-back 2-1 losses against Denton Diablos and Texoma FC, respectively, dropping the Matadors to fourth in the Ranger Division standings.
The Matadors have played three consecutive close matches, including a 3-3 home draw against West Texas FC on May 30, when they conceded a late stoppage-time equalizer.
The Chupacabras rank No. 14 in the Week 4 USL League Two Power Rankings, making them the highest-ranked club in Texas. Lubbock was ranked No. 20 in the league rankings and third among Texas clubs before its last two defeats.
McKinney is coming off a 1-0 home victory over the winless Fort Worth Vaqueros. Despite the narrow scoreline, the Chupacabras created enough chances to suggest a wider margin, but squandered multiple scoring opportunities throughout the match.
Forward Brayden Beason found the back of the net early in the second half for the lone goal of the game, marking his first of the season.
“Probably could’ve been a couple more goals for a couple of us,” Beason said after the match. “Fortunate to get a win.”
The Chupacabras will look to keep their win streak alive against the Matadors. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ron Poe Stadium.
