McKinney’s Home Unbeaten Streak Ends in 2–0 Loss to Texoma

McKinney Chupacabras FC suffered a 2–0 loss to Texoma FC on Saturday night, ending its perfect home season and dealing a major blow to its Ranger Division title hopes.

McKinney fell to 7–2–2 and no longer controls its own destiny for the division crown. The Chupacabras also dropped to third in the standings on points per match after playing their 11th match of the regular season. Texoma and Denton have each played 10, with less than a week remaining in the campaign.

Parker Plaxco scored both goals for the visitors, breaking the deadlock in the 45th minute before doubling the advantage in the 65th. His two-goal performance moved Texoma into position to control its own path to the Ranger Division title. It also marked Plaxco’s second multi-goal performance of the season after he recorded a hat trick in the club’s 4–1 victory over Fort Worth on June 2.

McKinney’s best opportunity to equalize came shortly before the hour mark. After Brayden Beason was fouled in the penalty area in the 58th minute, midfielder Aubry Eason stepped to the penalty mark, looking to bring the Chupacabras level. Instead, his penalty kick sailed over the crossbar.

The Chupacabras came within inches of tying the match moments later. Nazeem Bartman delivered a cross into the penalty area that found Beason, whose strike from just outside the box hit the left post before bouncing back into the arms of the Texoma goalkeeper.

McKinney struggled to generate consistent scoring opportunities throughout the match, as Texoma controlled large stretches of play and limited the Chupacabras’ attacking chances.

The result tightened the race for the top spot in the Ranger Division, with McKinney, Texoma, and Denton separated by just two points entering the final week of the regular season.

If Texoma defeats Denton in its next match, the winner of the July 11 rematch between McKinney and Texoma will claim the Ranger Division title. A draw between Texoma and Denton would leave McKinney needing a victory over Texoma and for Fort Worth to earn at least a draw against Denton to avoid a goal-difference tiebreaker.

McKinney closes the regular season Friday with a rematch against Texoma at Ron Poe Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
