McKinney Hosts West Texas in Rematch One Week After 2-2 Draw

McKinney Chupacabras FC returns home Saturday night looking to continue its unbeaten start to the season when it hosts West Texas FC at Ron Poe Stadium.

McKinney (5-0-1) enters the match after a record-setting 7-1 victory over Fort Worth Vaqueros FC on Wednesday. The result featured a club-record seven goals and marked the largest margin of victory in franchise history.

The Chupacabras are one of three unbeaten clubs in Texas, joining Laredo Heat SC (5-0-2) and GFI (4-0-2), both of which compete in the Lone Star Division.

West Texas (1-2-2) arrives in McKinney after a 1-0 road loss to Texoma FC on Wednesday. The defeat dropped West Texas to fifth in the Ranger Division standings and extended its winless streak to four matches after opening the season with a 2-1 home victory over Texoma on June 11.

West Texas is still searching for its first road point of the season after losing 1-0 in each of its first two away matches.

The two clubs met June 13 in Midland, where neither side could find separation in a physical 2-2 draw. West Texas struck first in the 18th minute when forward Diego Robles chipped goalkeeper Nathan Kinser for the opening goal, but McKinney answered later in the first half through midfielder Carson Burden.

The Chupacabras took the lead in the second half when Jordan Jones converted a penalty kick in the 71st minute. However, West Texas defender Ben Buckley headed home the equalizer in the 85th minute to salvage a point for the hosts.

West Texas could again rely on Robles in Saturday’s rematch. The forward leads the club with four goals this season and has proven to be one of the most dangerous attackers in the division.

McKinney’s defense, meanwhile, has conceded just five goals in six matches.

The Chupacabras have also received a recent boost offensively. Midfielder Jaylinn Mitchell scored twice in his club debut on Wednesday, while six different players found the scoresheet in the victory over Fort Worth.

McKinney has scored nine goals across its last two matches after scoring seven in its first four games of the season.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Ron Poe Stadium.
