Chupacabras Set for New Division, New Opponents in 2026
Out with the old, in with the new. McKinney Chupacabras FC will compete in a new division with new opponents for the 2026 United Soccer League League Two season, the club announced Jan. 27.
The Chupacabras are moving to the newly formed Ranger Division, which will feature exclusively Texas-based teams.
McKinney completed its inaugural 2025 season as a member of the Mid-South Division in USL2. The Chupacabras finished last season with three wins, eight losses, and one draw, placing fifth in the seven-team conference. The team faced Little Rock Rangers, Louisiana Krewe FC, Hattiesburg FC, Red River FC, Denton Diablos, and Mississippi Brilla.
Denton will again share a division with McKinney after finishing fourth last season, one spot ahead of the Chupacabras, with a 7-4-1 record.
Texoma joins the Ranger Division after competing in USL League One last season. The club finished 12th in the 14-team league with a 7-14-9 record, scoring 35 goals in 30 matches. Formerly based in Sherman, the club has relocated to Denison for its USL2 debut.
West Texas, Lubbock Matadors, and Fort Worth enter the Ranger Division after competing in the National Premier Soccer League. The teams finished first, second, and fourth, respectively, in the seven-team Lone Star Conference.
West Texas and Lubbock finished the regular season with identical 7-2-1 records, with West Texas leading the conference with 29 goals scored. The Midland-based club won both regular-season matchups 2-1 against Lubbock to claim the regular-season crown, but the Matadors captured the conference title with a 4-2 victory. Lubbock’s season ultimately ended with a 1-0 defeat to Hickory FC in the South Region Final.
Fort Worth finished its regular season 5-5-0 and scored 20 goals, culminating in a 3-0 loss to West Texas in the conference semifinals.
The finalized schedule will be announced in early February, with the Chupacabras’ season set to begin in May.
