Unbeaten Chupacabras Face Winless Fort Worth
McKinney Chupacabras FC continues its two-match road swing Wednesday night against Fort Worth Vaqueros FC.
McKinney (4-0-1) enters the match looking to return to the win column after settling for a 2-2 draw against West Texas FC on Saturday, ending the club’s perfect start to the season. Fort Worth (0-7-0) remains without a point after suffering a 1-0 loss to Lubbock Matadors on Saturday, its third one-goal defeat of the season.
The two clubs previously met on May 30, when the Chupacabras earned a 1-0 victory at Ron Poe Stadium. Despite the narrow scoreline, the home side controlled much of the match and created numerous scoring opportunities, including an 88th-minute shot from forward Tucker Eason that struck the right post.
McKinney also receives a boost on Wednesday with the return of forward Keane Cobuzio, who served a two-match suspension. The Chupacabras were without the McKinney native during Saturday’s draw against West Texas, a physical contest that featured eight total cards.
In the Chupacabras’ previous outing, West Texas found success attacking behind McKinney’s back line throughout the match, generating several dangerous counterattacking opportunities. The Chupacabras will look for a stronger defensive performance against a Fort Worth side that has struggled offensively this season.
The Vaqueros have scored just one goal through seven matches, tied for the fewest in all of USL League Two. Forward Christopher Jones accounted for the club’s lone goal in a 4-1 loss to Texoma FC on June 2.
Fort Worth has also struggled defensively, conceding 22 goals this season. No other club in the Ranger Division has allowed more than eight goals.
McKinney will seek its fifth win of the season, while Fort Worth searches for its first point. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Doskocil Stadium on the campus of Nolan Catholic High School.
