Chupacabras fall short in fiery season finale at Ron Poe Stadium
For the last time this season, fans packed Ron Poe Stadium to support the McKinney Chupacabras as the team closed out their home campaign.
The match began on a rough note for McKinney, as the Krewe built an early lead, sending the Chupacabras into halftime trailing 3–1. The lone first-half highlight for McKinney came in stoppage time, when Milton Lopez scored in the 45th minute, extending his stay as the team’s top scorer.
The second half saw a much more aggressive Chupacabras side. Jayden Schell and the defense stood firm, denying the Krewe any additional goals. However, with the increased intensity came a flood of cards.
In total, the referee issued 10 cards during the match (with just one in the first half) and nine more after the break. The Chupacabras picked up five, including a red card to Milton Lopez in the 69th minute. The others went to Cody Ellis, Julian Estrada, Cole Ramey, and Carson Burden.
The intensity reflected what was at stake. The Krewe secured their first-ever USL2 playoff berth with the win. At the same time, the Chupacabras displayed the fight and resilience that defined their debut season, particularly in a strong second-half showing.
